Vanilla coffee syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • A splash of vanilla extract or your favorite flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare Your Workspace: Start by gathering your ingredients and equipment. You'll need an enameled cast iron pot or a heavy-bottomed stainless steel pan, a measuring cup, and a mason jar or any container you prefer for storage.
  • Boil the Water: Place your pot on the stove and pour in 1 cup of filtered water. Bring it to a boil. The quality of water can make a big difference, so using filtered water is a great way to ensure the best flavor.
  • Add Sugar: Once your water is boiling, add 1 cup of sugar to the pot. Let it boil for a few minutes, stirring occasionally to help dissolve the sugar completely. The longer you boil, the thicker your syrup will become, but for a simple syrup, a couple of minutes is usually sufficient.
  • Incorporate Your Flavor: After boiling the sugar and water, turn off the heat and add a splash of your homemade vanilla extract (or whichever flavoring you prefer).
  • Cool and Store: Allow the mixture to cool slightly before transferring it to your chosen storage container. I typically let it sit out on the counter until it reaches room temperature before sealing it and placing it in the fridge. This syrup holds up well for about a week, and I usually make just one jar at a time to ensure freshness.
