Easy Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 4-5 cups all-purpose organic unbleached flour
  • 2 tablespoons instant yeast no preservatives needed!
  • cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cups milk warmed to bath temperature
  • 5 tablespoons real butter softened
  • 1 whole egg room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for the finish

The Super Easy Method

  • Start Around 4 PM:
  • In your stand mixer bowl, toss in 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add your warmed milk, softened butter, and egg. Mix on low until it comes together - no fancy techniques needed!
  • Crank it to medium speed for 2 minutes. Add flour gradually (about ½ cup at a time) until your dough forms a soft ball. Don't stress about perfection - slightly sticky is perfect!

The Warm Stove Trick:

  • Set your bowl of dough near (not on!) your warm stove while you start cooking dinner. The gentle heat from your stove creates the perfect rising environment. Cover with a kitchen towel and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Around 5 PM:
  • Give your dough a gentle punch down and start shaping rolls. Pinch off pieces (I just eyeball it - no need for a scale!) and roll them into loose balls. Plop them on a greased pan and put them back near your warm stove for another 30 minutes. If you want perfect rolls you can weigh each ball 2oz is just right.
  • Around 5:45 PM:
  • Pop them in a 375°F oven for 12-15 minutes until golden. While they bake, you're putting the finishing touches on your main course.
