From Army Life to Texas Ranch: Our Family’s Next Chapter
I’m excited to share some big news with you all – our family is moving back to Texas! After years of military moves across the country, we’re heading to my husband’s home state to pursue our dream of building a working ranch.
Our Military Journey
My husband has been serving in the Army since 2011, and we’ve been married since 2016. Over these years, we’ve called many places home – Washington, Hawaii, Texas, Missouri, and most recently, Georgia. With each move, our family has grown. We now have four wonderful children and have learned to adapt to the ever-changing military lifestyle.

Through these relocations, we’ve become experts at finding opportunity in change. We’ve purchased fixer-uppers and built equity by riding favorable market waves. We’ve added (and sadly, lost) beloved pets along the way. Each move has been a chance to start fresh while carrying forward the lessons we’ve learned.
Finding Our Passion for Homesteading
One of the most significant developments in our journey has been discovering our love for homesteading. Despite the challenges of military life, we’ve managed to create sustainable living spaces wherever we go. As the head of our home, I’ve embraced the responsibilities of managing our homestead – from gardening and animal husbandry to homeschooling our children and running a home business.

This lifestyle isn’t for every military family! It requires tremendous dedication and flexibility. But for us, it’s provided a sense of stability and purpose amidst the constant changes of Army life.
Saying Goodbye to Georgia
As we prepare to sell our beautiful farmhouse in Georgia, we’re experiencing those bittersweet emotions that come with every military move. We’re sad to leave the home we’ve created here, but we’re looking forward to new beginnings in Texas.

Our Texas Dream
We’re searching for a farm property within a two-hour radius of Fort Hood (old habits die hard with the name changes!). We’re looking throughout the region – from Hill Country east to west – for the perfect piece of land to build our dream.
Our vision is to establish a natural, quality meat operation that sells directly to consumers. My father will be joining us in his retirement to help establish the farm while my husband continues his military service until retirement.
A Family Legacy
This move represents more than just another military relocation – it’s the beginning of our family’s legacy. We plan to take everything we’ve learned from our previous homesteads and create a true working Texas ranch. We’re excited to bring real, quality food to our family’s table and to our future customers.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you all – from property hunting to building our ranch from the ground up. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this new adventure in the Lone Star State!
A tip for aspiring military homesteaders
Do not wait! you might need to wait for the forever farm. But start educating yourselves now! learn how to grow tomatoes, or raise rabbits in your back yard. Homesteading is full of mistakes and changes of direction. Learning skills before you retire will serve you well!
So looking forward to your experience! I love your stove and located one ! Now to talk my hubby into getting it! Where his you live in Wa State ? I’m in Ellensburg. Center of the state.
All the blessings to you and your family.
