5 Reasons Why We Homeschool at Hardmeadfarm
5 Reasons Why We Homeschool Our Children
In our journey as a military family, we’ve come to embrace the unique challenges and opportunities that come with our lifestyle. One of the most significant decisions we’ve made is to homeschool our children. This choice has not only enriched our family life but has also allowed us to prioritize our children’s education in a way that aligns with our values and circumstances. Here are five compelling reasons why homeschooling works for us.

1. Tailored Teaching Methods
Every child has their own learning style, and one of the greatest advantages of homeschooling is the ability to tailor our teaching methods to fit each child’s needs. Whether they learn best through hands-on activities, visual aids, or auditory instruction, we can adapt our lessons accordingly. This personalized approach fosters a deeper understanding of the material and encourages a love for learning that can last a lifetime.
2. Control of Our Schedule
As a military family, our schedules are often unpredictable, making it essential for us to have flexibility in our educational approach. This past year, we faced the heart-wrenching loss of my dear nephew to cancer. Homeschooling allowed us the freedom to travel to England and be by our family’s side during such a critical time. We could adjust our lessons around our personal needs and circumstances, ensuring that education does not come at the expense of family support and connection.
3. Family Bonding
Before we made the switch to homeschooling, I often found myself missing my children during the hours they spent at school. I especially longed for a closer bond with my daughter, as we struggled to connect like I did with my sons. Homeschooling has given us the opportunity to spend quality time together, engaging in learning activities that foster strong relationships. This shared experience has bridged gaps and allowed us to connect on a deeper level, enriching our family life as a whole.
4. Safety
In an age where concerns about children’s safety in traditional school settings are prevalent, homeschooling provides me with peace of mind. I feel most secure knowing that my children are learning in a safe environment, surrounded by family members who love and care for them. By keeping their education within the home, I can ensure they are protected from potential dangers, allowing us to focus on learning without the distractions of external threats.
5. Protection from Negative Influences
Bullying and peer pressure can have a significant impact on a child’s emotional and mental well-being. By choosing to homeschool, we are able to shield our children from these negative influences, providing them with a nurturing environment where they can grow and develop without the stress that often accompanies traditional schooling. This protection allows them to cultivate self-esteem and emotional resilience, preparing them to face the world on their own terms when the time comes.
Closing thoughts
Homeschooling has proven to be a fulfilling and rewarding choice for our family. It allows us to tailor education to each child’s needs, maintain control over our schedule, strengthen family bonds, ensure safety, and protect our children from negative influences. While this path may not be the right fit for everyone, for us, it has opened up a world of possibilities that enrich our lives and solidify our family’s connections. We are grateful for the journey we are on and the unique experiences that homeschooling brings.
Lisa-I absolutely love your blogs! I am an IG and you tube follower.
I am new to homeschooling and am currently homeschooling my granddaughter. I was wondering with curriculum you use. From reading your post I understood you geared everything around the personality of the child. Could you do a post sometime on which ones you use? I would appreciate your thoughts.
And, as many recipes as you have time to post😋
Hello Cathy,
Home school is a great way to customized education. But I always suggest The good and beautiful as a great place to start.
